I finally got some time to sit down and go through our photos from Christmas!

This year, the holiday was so fun from the minute we started decorating our home. Jackson's excitement for every holiday activity made it more than worth it.

Christmas morning he ran into our bedroom and shouted, "Mom, Santa left presents...he didn't leave me coal!" I never doubted that Jackson was on the Good List...but I think there were times he was sweating it out! :)

Enjoy a little photo-video of our Christmas! We were very lucky to be surrounded by family and friends all month long.

Mamaw Marge bought Jackson his very first bike!

We want to take the time for a very special post ... for a very special lady, MAMAW MARGE!

Tonight we got to celebrate her 84th birthday. We drove to Anderson to "Mamaw Marge's Special Hospital" as Jackson refers the nursing home. We gathered with Justin's family for Pizza and chocolate cake. We brought Mamaw Marge Paradise cookies and Jackson kept his eye on them until she offered to share. :)

Mamaw Marge is a very neat lady. From the minute you meet her, you know exactly what she thinks of you...but yet she still remains one of the sweetest people I know. I love the way she lights up when Jackson comes to visit. I can still remember her getting on the floor to play with Jackson when he was a baby...this wasn't an easy task for her due to her health, but she certainly wasn't going to miss a chance to be with Jackson. And more recently, I see her look at her newest great-grandson - Wyatt the same way.

Mamaw Marge keeps us laughing. She will often give me her opinion on the latest local weather girl or on the latest Bachelor cast-off (I usually agree, by the way). I also love that at 84 she has kept up with reality television and tunes into to American Idol each week (rumor has it she even voted for Clay Aiken).

Justin has such great memories of spending time with his Gradma and I love to hear about them. We are both so lucky to have her in our life - but even more lucky that Jackson is getting to know this great lady too.

So Big, So Proud!

For a while now Jackson has been able to write the letter J and tell us he was "writing" his name.

We always play along and smile even though there are never any other letters after the J.

Tonight, as Jackson was was "writing his name" I watched him actually write the rest of the letters!

They may not be in the right order- but the letters are there! I was one proud Momma and called Justin to come look! Jackson then asked us, "you guys so proud, Mom?". Yes, we are!

This one is a keeper!

Santa delivered a special delivery to our house while we were out of town this past weekend. Our very own, Elf on the Shelf.

Jackson had so much "finding" him tonight and we read the book as a family. Of course, the book made me tear up. I can't wait to share this tradition with Justin and Jackson each year. Our elf was officially named "Smurf". Welcome to our family, Smurf!

Jackson made sure to tell Smurf what he wanted him to tell Santa tonight when he returns to the North Pole. His list was as follows:

"Tell Santa I want a Volleyball, The Hippo Game, and a Drum....and tell him I am a very good boy."

Can't wait to "find" Smurf and what he's been up to....Hmmmm (This Mommy needs to get creative...)

I have finally gained my energy back from my Black Friday shopping trip (Never, ever, will I shop at midnight - NEVER). So, I finally took the time to download our photos from such a fun weekend. As always, we spent time with both of our families. We spent time with the Bixler's at Justin's parents home (Jackson loved decorating Pop's Christmas tree)...and as always, my family spent the weekend downtown Indianapolis for the lighting of the Circle of Lights. Our weekend was full of family, love, and laughter - all the things we are thankful for.

Many stores are playing Christmas carols, I've already purchased Jackson's Christmas PJ's, and Justin and I both are constantly reminding Jackson that "Santa is watching." The holidays have already begun....

So this past weekend, we celebrated with the arrival of "The Big Guy" at Hamilton Town Center. There was a band, the Pacemates, Boomer, snacks, and Jackson's Favorite...SANTA CLAUS!

A Cake Walk Pro!

Last week, Aunt Shel and Uncle Tom took Jackson to the Lantern Road Elementary School Carnival! I loved school carnivals when I was young and knew Jackson would too.

Turns out he is a pro at the Cake Walk, loved the bounce house...AND apparently loved the photo-booth! Loved the photo-strips he brought home. The have been tucked away for keeping!

A big thanks to Olivia and Madeline who help make Jackson's night so fun!

Trick or Treat 2011

Halloween may be my new favorite holiday!

This year we let Jackson choose what he wanted to dress up as for Halloween. I was ready to hear "Buzz Light-Year, or Batman - like most 3 year little boys. But I wasn't surprised when he chose...a football player. I immediately pulled out his Colts jersey - but he corrected me and explained he wanted to be a "Royal Football Player".

We have spent many Friday nights at the high school (right next to our neighborhood) cheering on the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. Jackson is convinced that he will play on that football field some day. He has even committed to cut back on the cookies and eat a vegetable or two so be can be a better football player (though I'm not convinced about cutting back on the cookies).

So, when Jackson told me he only wanted to be a "Rolio" (he struggles with the word Royal) football player. I went to work. Thank goodness for ESTY.com where I got most of his uniform (turns out they don't make football pants in 3T).

Jackson has had so much fun celebrating in his costume the past few days. We have enjoyed watching Jackson taking part in all the fun. It tugged at my heart a bit tonight to see that Jackson really wanted to run door to door with his friends rather than hold my hand as we walked down the street. But either way, we felt lucky be with him - as always. :)

Justin, Jackson and I recently took in my nephew's (Hayden) Football game. After the game Justin, Jackson, and my other nephew, Griffin, got a little "playing time" themselves.

Jackson is really into Halloween this year. We have a "countdown" until the Trick-or-Treat holiday...he can't wait to show his friends his costume...and he has even learned the "Trick-or-treat-smell my feet" song word for word... He is loving it. As every little kid should!

Jackson was even excited to carve his pumpkin this year. When I told him that Daddy could make his pumpkin look like Mickey Mouse...Jackson said, "Oh, Daddy I would be so 'cited'!" Justin looked at me and said, "I can?" After showing Justin the stencil I found and a little cheerleading from Jackson, "C'mon, Daddy - You can do it!"...we officially have a Mickey Mouse pumpkin.

Jackson couldn't be happier and Justin couldn't be prouder.

Pumpkin Patch 2011

Last week, Justin and I snuck a little time during the "work week" for our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch. This year, we tried out a different Pumpkin Patch than our usual trip to Stoney Creek. This one was close by - but a bit smaller. While Justin and I much prefer Stoney Creek - Jackson didn't even notice. :) Fun was had by all!

No Paci at This House!

Those of you who know us well know that Jackson has been battling an addiction problem.

Yep. Our son was a Paci-holic. Jackson turned 3 in May, and Justin and I had been putting off breaking Jackson of this habit. We put it off for various reasons - but none more than it was just easier to let him keep his "addiction" going.

Well, we did it.

Acutally, Jackson did it.

The only other thing Jackson loves as much as he loves his Paci's - is Mickey Mouse. Justin and I starting talking Jackson about all the babies we saw while we were Walt Disney World and how they needed Paci's. Justin and I suggested to Jackson that we send Mickey Mouse all of his Paci's so Mickey could give them to all of those babies. Some how....it worked. Jackson bought into the idea...and was even excited about it.

The night before the BIG DAY, I found an actual address for "letters to Mickey Mouse" and sat down with Jackson to "help" him write his letter to Mickey.

The next morning...we headed to the post office. Jackson even helped box up his Paci's. He even explained to the Post Master that she needed "to put this package on the truck and then take it to the airplane so Mickey can have them." You should have seen the lady's face when she realized we were mailing a package to Mickey Mouse. Then...you should have seen her face when I asked her to pose for a picture with Jackson! After all, this was a big day for our family.

While this day was very emotional for Justin and I - after all this was the last "baby step" we had left - Jacskon never shed a tear. He has asked a few times for his Paci - but quickly remembers that Mickey has them and he sure doesn't want to let Mickey down.

Mickey has received the Paci's. In fact, "Mickey" has been so kind to send a "prize" to our house each day since our trip to the post office. I know, I know...It is total bribery...BUT IT IS WORKING! Each evening Jackson runs to the mailbox to see if "Mickey" has sent him a prize for being paci-free! Funny - how Mickey has the same wrapping paper as we do.... :)

Wedding Bells in South Carolina!

Wedding Bells were ringing in South Carolina this past weekend . So we packed up the car and headed south.

We wouldn't have missed my cousin's wedding for anything. Ryan and his new bride, Mandi have been together for ELEVEN YEARS - so it was worth the drive to watch the two finally tie the knot!

Grandma Evy has seen everyone of her grandchildren get married! :)

We all love a good wedding reception - and this one was super fun!

Not only was it a great weekend with extended family we don't see often enough...but once again "the cousins" found themselves with a fun weekend. I think this group: Olivia, Madeline, Griffin, Hayden and Jackson can make any time together super fun. Add in the beach, a wedding reception with fantastic music and cake, and a weekend together in hotel and you have the makings of fantastic time!

Oh...all the adults had fun too...but I'm not sure the kids even noticed we were there.

Just winding down a weekend of "cousin time" with Jackson's cousins- Olivia and Madeline.

Olivia and Madeline spent the weekend with us while their parents were out enjoying some "adult time.".

We enjoyed spending time with them. We played Monopoly, baked cookies and they even taught Jackson the days of the week! ;) (video to come soon)

But no one enjoyed themselves more than Jackson. He loved having his cousins at The Big House!

The Bixler Family Road Trip!

About a month ago, Justin and I planned a "Bixler Family Road-Trip." Destination? Cincinnati.

When I was young - each summer my family would "Road Trip" to Cincinnati and take in a Reds baseball game, overnight in a hotel, and then hit the roller-coasters at Kings Island the next day. We decided to recreate this weekend with our little family of three.

This trip marked Jackson's first MLB game. I couldn't tell who was more excited - Justin or Jackson. Though we didn't catch a foul ball - Jackson still went home with an official practice ball. A big thanks to the "Hot Dog Guy" for scooping up practice balls from earlier that day and giving them to the "little Reds' Fans," like Jackson. He was thrilled!

Kings Island was a hit with Jackson. He instantly asked to ride The Beast...but we settled on the Great Pumpkin Ride. The only time we left Snoopy World was the take in the Water Park. Jackson loved the water slides and Justin and I loved the people watching! :)

The whole weekend was wonderful - three days with nothing but family time. It was much needed after such a busy summer.

I hate that I have gotten behind on the blogging updates - but it was nice to pull out these pictures a month later and remember what a great time we had. My favorite moment was sitting on the tailgate of the truck - watching the fireworks - eating Kings Island junk food because we never stopped riding the rides to eat dinner. Nothing beats a tailgate, Chicken nuggets, and fireworks at the end of a great family day!

A big thanks to those of you who called or text to check on Justin during his recent emergency Appendectomy.

Happy to report Justin is home and already worried about work, what he will eat next, and complaining about my nursing ability. ;). I'd say he is on his way to being himself! ;).

The Bixler's Hit NYC!!!

Last month, Justin and I planned a quick weekend in New York. I was flying to New Jersey for a week of training for work - and we thought if Justin hopped on a plane to NYC the weekend before training - it might just have the makings of a great weekend away. We were right.

We knew we wouldn't be in the City for long. We decided on two things we wanted to do. (1) Shopping (2) A Yankees Baseball game.

For those of you who know Justin, know that he loves the Yankees. So by marriage - so do I. I have grown to know the history, some stats, and very clear view on how HANDSOME Derick Jeter truly is. :)

Justin nor I had been to the new stadium and we couldn't wait. Part of the fun for me was watching Justin become so excited as game time grew closer. I love experiencing things like this with Justin! Nothing better than marking things of your Bucket List!

We lucked out - and got to see the Yankees win that day! Even better.

On our last day - we found a pub in Hoboken to watch the Brickyard 400. Note to self - If you don't want to stick out like a HOOSIER in NYC - don't be the only person cheering out loud for Jeff Gordon - or for Nascar in general. But we loved it. We even snapped a photo or two of our favorite "Baker" in Hoboken - THE CAKE BOSS!

It was a great weekend. Two full days with my husband. I love that we still have fun - just the two of us - not matter where we are!

Jackson loves sports. This, we know.

He loves them so much that he chooses ESPN over the Disney Channel many nights.

This week he has enjoyed watching the little league world series.

In fact, he pointed out that would like to play in the Little League World Series when he is a big kid. Well, we all have dreams right? Justin assured him we would give it our best shot! ;)

Its no secret that Jackson loves sports.

It is also not a secret that Justin loves golf.

So today - Justin and Jackson went golfing. (Of course Jackson has his own clubs!)

Justin took a little video while they were at the driving range. I loved getting it and seeing Jackson in Justin's world...he took it very seriously and was upset when it was time to go home.

I am certain it is only a matter of time before I lose Jackson to golf on the weekends too.

Just add golf to the long line of sports that Jackson is OBSESSED with...I secretly love it!

Dear Dad,

Dear Dad,

It is August 7th. A date that I used to never even notice. Now, it seems to be one I can’t forget. It comes once a year - as a reminder that you are no longer there for me to call each day. Not that I need a reminder.

I know you are with me each day as I navigate life - but it isn’t the same as watching you love Jackson and the other Grandkids - or listening to you and Mom tell me what was on Nancy Grace that night. So many things are not the same. In fact, its been a while since I’ve filled you in on what you missed.

Justin and I have finally settled into our home in Fishers. You would be happy to know that we planted roots near family - you always encouraged us to do so. Jackson loves “The Big House” and has made friends with the neighbors. Justin and I look forward to watching all the little ones grow up together and making memories with the other families. Just as you and Mom did all those years ago.

Justin is just as obsessed with the yard and landscaping as he always has been. There are times I go to get on him about spending too much time on his “show mow”, but stop when I hear you tell me, “leave that boy alone...” You always took his side - and Justin loved it!

Jackson is as rotten as ever - you would love it! I often wonder how he would probably be even more rotten if you were here to teach him all the rotten stuff “Papaw Mike” was known for (like Cave Man Named Dave). Jackson can’t pass up an Oreo - you would love it!...But you would be so confused as to why he turns his nose up to Ice Cream - Its almost Un-American.

Jackson loves his cousins and asks to see them if our schedule hasn’t allowed us to - I know you would be proud that he cherishes family. He thinks his Aunts and Uncle can’t do wrong and he boy does love his Mamaw Charsh!

A few months ago, our entire family - along with the Bixler’s loaded up and headed to Walt Disney World. Jackson lit up the minute we got off the plane. I know that Mom and I both had something tugging at our heart the whole week. We were missing you. You lived for trips to Disney World with your Grandkids - and here we were all together for Jackson’s first trip and you weren’t there. Justin kept reminding me that you were there - in spirit. I know he’s right and just tried to stay in the moment with Jackson. You should have seen him taking it all in...telling Mickey Mouse “I have to go home today Mickey, but I’ll be back to see you soon” on our last day. Justin and I both teared up on that one. I’m sure you would have too!

Jackson is getting so smart. Today, he asked me to sit at the table with him and help him write his name. I felt like he was 17 studying for the SATs. :) You would also love to see how OBSESSED Jackson is with sports. He played Tball and Soccer this summer - and I know you would have loved to come each game and cheer him on (or laugh at how Jackson always got a ‘stomach ache’ during warm ups - but was fine for batting practice). I have a feeling Jackson will be just like his Daddy - and will love any and every sport he can play. I am fairly certain I have a lot of “bleacher time” in my future. Wish you could be there sitting right next to me.

I’ve changed jobs - again. I know, I know, I know...but I love my job this time and love the challenge it brings each day. I know you would be proud. I just wish you were here for me to share this new challenge with and hear your encouraging words when the challenge is a bit tougher than I like.

I could go on and on - but please know that life is good. I don’t take it for granted. Justin and I love to share our life with family and friends. I’m thankful that you taught me life isn’t “great” unless you share it with those you love. I can only hope that Jackson learns that from us.

Please know that you are loved and talked about often - the only way I know to “keep you with me”.

Working Mom...

I am away this week for work (more on that at another time)...and Justin knew this week would be hard for me. Justin is usually the one that travels for work - not me.

To help, Justin set up Skype on his iPad (for those of you who know Justin know he has NO techno skills-this was huge!) I loved skyping with Justin and Jackson tonight. I got to see Jackson's soccer class certificate and hear him tell me that it says he was a "really good boy!". It was also nice to get to "see" Justin and tell all about what I am learning while away. ;)

Yesterday when I unpacked my work bag- I found a card from both Jackson and Justin with Jackson's picture inside. It is currently sitting on the hotel nightstand!

I also had a surprise in my suitcase. Look who came along for the trip!

Jackson sleeps with Donald each night and Justin thought it might help the week go a little faster if Donald came along with me. ;).

And...tonight I received a picture of "The Mommy Countdown!". Love this!

I am counting down the days too! I can't wait to be home with Justin and Jackson.

Justin, thanks so much for making this trip easier with all of your sweet gestures- and a big thanks to Jackson for being such a sweet-yet rotten- little boy!

"32" was more fun than "21"...in fact it felt like "13!"

About 20 years ago - you could almost guarantee to find me in my room giggling with my best-friend, Jenny...and listening to the New Kids on The Block. You could not convince me that I wasn't going to marry Danny Wood or Jordan Knight.

I won't forget the year that Santa left me the NKOTB doll set and stage (he brought one to Jenny, too) or that Jenny and I spent every Fall and Winter in out NKOTB Tour jackets. We were in love ... with the "five hardest working kids in show business." :)

My older sister's teased us - but we didn't care. We were only doing what every other girl our age was doing...we lived the New Kids craze....and loved it!

As the years went on - we did too - but Jenny and I would often talk about our New Kid days. We would share a laugh and a giggle (its what we do best) - but it would always bring back great memories.

So imagine who the first person I texted was when I heard that NKOTB would be touring Indianapolis the week of my birthday. Yep, Jenny. I heard back instantly - "We're There!" A few phone calls to other girlfriends (there aren't many girls my age who don't share my love for The New Kids On The Block) and it was set. We had a date with NKOTB...added bonus was the BackStreet Boys were joining the concert as well! We were instantly teenagers again.

Justin saw our excitement and threw in a limo for the night - and then we were "gitty-teenagers." Months of anticipation of a night with our childhood crush...and as I celebrated another year older...I got the chance to revert back to my youth. It was more than fantastic.

Trash day was pushed back a day due to the holiday - which meant our weekly visit from the garbage truck came over the weekend.

Jackson was excited. He planted his "bisquits" in the front yard for a front row seat. He just couldn't believe the truck can pick up the cans all by itself. ;)

Church or Cheer Practice?

Its no secret. We don't attend church. Sure we've gone on a holiday or two in years past - but not since Jackson has been born.

We recently attended a First Communion ceremony for our niece, Madeline. It wasn't until that day that I realized that Jackson had never been to a church. Hmmmm....

During the ceremony, I could tell Jackson was taking it all in. We have spent many weekends watching my nieces at cheer competitions. All Jackson new about our day at church was that it was a special day for Madeline. He sat there taking it all in and then looked at me and said, "Mom, is this cheer practice?". Hmmm.... I knew we had a problem.

Days later, our neighbors- Kyle and Krista- invited Jackson to attend Vacation Bible School at their church with their son (and Jackson's Best Bud) Ryne. Justin and I signed him right away.

Jackson was super excited and was very chatty about his upcoming week at Bible School the night before it started. Check out our night time conversation:

I love coming across old photos especially those that include my Dad. It made my night.

My Dad has been on my mind this week as we are preparing for Jackson's 3rd birthday party and his first trip to Disney. My Dad would be counting down the days right along with me! Miss him so!

Last week was also my Dad's birthday - the day didn't go un-noticed. We celebrated by spending the day with family - and watching Miss Madeline Boyd take first communion. She looked beautiful! She is growing up and that is something my Dad would have been proud of.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Jackson!

Three years ago today (about this time of night) Justin and I were sitting in a hospital room with our new baby boy counting our blessings (and counting the many things we didn't know about babies)....

We soon figured out what we didn't know, learned from mistakes, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Turning three was hard on Mommy. Not sure why - perhaps because I think this means he is officially not a baby any longer. Perhaps it is because I signed Jackson up for t-ball the same week (can't believe he is old enough)....perhaps its because I miss the days he fit in my palm and I rocked him to sleep on the front porch.

As always - to overcome my emotions - I through myself into the celebration. I can't stop him from growing - so I decided to focus on celebrating!

And boy - have we been celebrating... :)

Yesterday - we let Jackson pick where to have dinner. He made Mommy proud and chose Pizza. :) We ended the evening with a play-date with his buddy Ryne. So fun!

This morning (Jackson's actual birthday) we woke Jackson up by singing Happy Birthday - and he took us up on our offer for pancakes before school! As always, he dipped his pancakes in ketchup!

Today - Justin and I met up at PreSchool for a small party with Jackson's preschool friends. It was so fun to celebrate at school and see Jackson interact with his friends. The minute I pulled out the Buzz light year plates all the little boys yelled, "To infinity and beyond!"...Jackson, of course, was the loudest! :) Enjoy some pictures from Jackson's school party...

You may remember, that Justin and try to plan a "week of fun" to celebrate Jackson's birthday each year. However, this entire month is filled with birthday fun for Jackson - birthday party, Disney, etc...

I had an event for work this weekend, so we had to push Jackson's birthday party until later this month. But we will still celebrate this week with a lot of fun activities! I can't wait to share all the fun each night - so stay tuned!

Easter 2011

Easter has come and gone...but don't tell Jackson.

Jackson still asks us each night to re-hide his eggs "like the Easter Bunny did" and he finds them....then we do it again. It was so sweet to see him really enjoy the fun this year!

Our Easter holiday started early in the week with the Easter Eggstravaganza at pre-school where Jackson met the Easter Bunny and decorated an egg. It was nice to join him for this event and see him in his environment at school.

Jackson and I were able to participate in our neighborhood Easter egg hunt with this new friends - Ryne and Morgan. Jackson enjoyed every minute of it - especially when he got to eat his Hershey Kisses - his new favorite.

Easter weekend was also Justin's sister's (Ashley) birthday. We celebrated with the Bixler's at our house where Jackson also got to color Easter eggs. It was nice that everyone joined in on the fun.

Easter morning was so fun! We loved watching Jackson sneak downstairs to see if the Easter Bunny left him a basket. He was very impressed that the Easter Bunny hid the eggs that he had colored the night before!

Easter was filled with family fun. We visited with Justin's family at Mama Marge's house and then went to my Grandma's for her annual Easter Egg hunt. The kids look forward to it each year. This year the hunt had to be inside - but that didn't stop Jackson. My Mom and Grandma had such great treats for all the kids...and it just isn't Easter without my Mom's Bunny Cake. One of my favorites!

THE EASTER BUNNY STOPPED HERE!

Happy Easter! We hoped everyone enjoyed today with celebration along with family and friends. We certainly did. Jackson loves days like today when we get to see all of our family.

It was wonderful to share Easter with Jackson as he really got excited about the Easter Bunny and coloring Eggs.

A Pacifier for Papaw Mike?

It is no secret. Jackson LOVES his pacifier.

It is also no secret that it is time to give it up.

We thought about leaving it for Santa Claus at Christmas, but Justin was afraid Jackson would then resent Santa Claus.

So, we decided Jackson should leave it for the Easter Bunny (My mom says it worked for me when I was 3).

But, then we decided we don't want to fly with Jackson NOT having a pacifier.

So then it was pushed until after our Disney vacation.

However, Justin and Jackson spent some time at the cementary last week planting trees at my Dad's grave as a favor to my Mom. I was with my sister-in-law, Ashley, in Fishers when my cell phone rang. It was Justin. Justin explained that Jackson had something to tell me. Jackson got on the phone - and here is how the next few minutes went (on speaker phone so Ashley could hear too):

Me: Hi Buddy!

Jackson: Hi Mommy!

Me: What's Up?

Jackson: Hey Mommy, I gave my Paci to Papaw Mike.

Ashley and I look at each other confused.

Me. What Buddy?

Jackson: Yeah! Daddy dug a hole. I put my Paci in there and Daddy put some dirt on it. I left Papaw Mike my Paci.

Ashley and I are both wiping tears from our eyes.

Me: Buddy, that is very sweet - I just know Papaw will take good care of it.

Jackson: But Mommy?

Me: Yes, Buddy?

Jackson: But, now I don't have a Paci?!?

Apparently Justin forgot to explain how this works....Needless to say - Jackson had a Pacifier when I got home that night.

A sweet gesture. One I will always remember. My Dad was on my mind a lot that day and this story touched my heart. But as sweet as it was - it was unsuccessful....

So- we are still sticking with the "After Disney" plan....

Ready, Set, Catch Up....

Friends and Family,

It may seem that I have slacked on the posting lately - and it is very true.

But not because we don't have pictures or funny stories to share - but only because we have a very energetic little boy (who hasn't found a bedtime before 9:30) who barely lets us have a minute to ourselves. And truth be told - we are loving being the parents of an almost - three year old - even if it does mean less time to blog, read a book, paint my nails (why bother when I break them playing football or digging in the dirt with Jackson).

Another reason you haven't seen many new posts is that we have been busy with a couple home improvement projects. We have decided neither one of us is made out for HGTV - we just don't have the patience for this stuff....but it certainly has been fun (and stressful).

Family and Friends are another reason - why we are certainly blessed with both - we have been busy celebrating achievements, babysitting my nieces, and celebrating 30th-plus birthdays with friends...what fun!

Like everyone else in Indianapolis...we got swept away by Butler's magical run in March and cheered for the Bulldogs with friends when we could....

Bottom line is...I know I'm behind on posting. I hope to pick it back up...as I love sharing our fun with all of you. So for now, here is a short video of what you've missed....the good, the bad, and the ugly (my second round of Pink Eye!)....

Our Little Fish...

I know you may find this as a bit of a surprise - but until recently we haven't been able to find a swim vest/belt that would keep Jackson's weight up-right in the pool. Everything we found - required him to weigh more than he did (gasp! more than our little tank?). So a couple weeks ago, I was determined to find a swim vest that would allow him to swim on his own and keep up with his friends and cousins this summer. We recently tested it out at the YMCA. In a matter of minutes, Jackson was taking off on his own.

Jackson's new "freedom" in the pool made him be a little more exhausted after a long swim. He ate an entire Subway sandwich when we were done and fell asleep minutes into our car ride home.

I remember ending many summer nights just the same! :)

All Boy...

Remember Sophie?

Remember Sophie?

Today, I got a text message from Justin's Mom, Penny. I was working and quickly glanced to see that it was a picture of her and a dog. I just assumed it was Oscar (our dog that has taken up semi-permanent residence at my in-law's home during our many moves). After thinking to myself, "Why would she send me a picture of her and Oscar?" - I glanced again...only to notice it was our old dog Sophie!

In our first few years of marriage we brought in two dogs into our home. Oscar and Sophie. Sophie came second - and was to be a buddy to Oscar. As much as Sophie loved Oscar - Oscar didn't want a buddy.

Sophie was a great dog - but one with lots of energy. All of that energy got in the way of her learning to be potty-trained...along with many other things. Long story short - we had to find her a new home. It was very hard. We are lucky enough to know her new owner personally and have been able to stay in touch - but have not seen Sophie since our last day with her. We even received a "Merry Christmas" text from Sophie this year. It made our day.

So today - I immediately called my Mother-in-law to ask how in the world there was a pic on my phone of she and Sophie. Turns out she was driving along Fall Creek and saw a lady walking a dog. As if she had just seen Sophie yesterday, Penny shouted, "That is Sophie!" My father-in-law immediately turned around so they could find out for sure and sure enough - it was Sophie!

Sophie was very happy to see Penny (lots of kisses) - truth be told Penny was better to Sophie than we were - and missed her just as much.

It was obvious that Sophie is in good hands and enjoys afternoon walks with her new owner. It was also said that her favorite habit is "chasing squirrels." Yep. That sounds like Sophie!

Situations like these can often go badly - we feel so lucky to know that Sophie is in such good hands. It is also nice to know that Sophie remembers being loved by her "old family" too.

We celebrated Mama Penny's birthday (a larger celebration to come this weekend).

We spent two evenings at the YMCA swimming (and eating cookies...)

I spent one evening helping my niece Olivia practice for the 7th grade Cheerleading Try-outs (brought back the memories!)

...now, we are all ready to cheer on the Butler Bulldogs!

Dina Won't You Blow

Jackson has been learning Nursery Rhymes at school. Considering that my Dad opted to teach my sisters and I dirty jokes and poems instead of nursery rhymes - I was glad to hear some one would be teaching these treasured songs to Jackson. He is sure glad too. He loves them. And...even asks that I record him singing them each night. :)

A Picnic Date - "Just Mommy and Jackson!"

A Big Thanks to "Mama and Pop" for spending time with Jackson this weekend. Only Mama and Pop can turn a trip to Menards into fun that is worth talking about for a couple of days. We keep hearing about how Pop took Jackson to "Nards" and how they have a park (Aka Playground)!

Warm Up and Cool Down ... Who needs all that stuff in the middle!?!

As I have posted before - Justin and I have been trying P90X - a late New Year's resolution. I have to hand it to Justin, he has been way more dedicated than me. But neither of us is as dedicated as Jackson. Each night, he asks if it is time to "do our exercises"...he is just a little too eager.

He is also the best cheerleader! You see, Jackson doesn't participate much past the "Warm-up"...but he loves to sit and cheer you on...then he joins back up for the "cool-down." Smart Kid!

Justin spent some time at the YMCA playing basketball with friends today. Jackson and I took in some "pool time" down the hall at the same time. When we were done we popped into the gym to watch Justin play. We caught the last few minutes of the game. However, Jackson's favorite part was after the game when Justin let Jackson shoot. Anything to be just like Daddy!...

But he also likes to be like Mommy.... (See below) :)

He asked me, "Are these for your work, Mom?..."

We are Walt Disney World Bound

....in 81 Days!

I feel like I have been planning this post since I found out I was pregnant with Jackson. Okay, perhaps I've not been planning this post - but I have certainly been planning the trip. Walt Disney World is one of my favorite places on earth. It has been since I was little.

I'm certain I was in awe of Mickey Mouse and thought Cinderella was beautiful during my childhood trips to the most magical place on earth...but truth be told it was the memories I was making with my family that made that place so wonderful. I even went once in college with my folks on fall break (Such a great trip!).

As the years went by, Justin and I tagged along with my sisters as they each took their children to experience "the magic." In fact, I can remember wiping the tears away as Olivia wrapped her arms around Mickey Mouse for the first time...only to look over to watch my Dad do the same. There is something special about that mouse! Justin and I started talking then about taking our soon-to-be children to Disney.

From the second we knew Jackson was coming - we knew we wanted to take Jackson to Disney World for his third birthday (it helps that they are Free before they are three). We've been talking about the trip since before Jackson was born. This is a trip that was meant for my Dad! It was a chance that he could immerse himself in his grand children's world. I couldn't wait to share this trip with my Dad. Dad and I were planning this trip as we were holding Jackson in our arms as I newborn. Even though my Dad won't be here to see Jackson hug Mickey Mouse or give Buzz Lightyear a high-five...he'll be there in spirit. I have so many memories of my Dad at Walt Disney World - it will be impossible to not to have him be part of our trip....and that makes me smile.

My Dad may not be there - but Jackson is so lucky to have so many people who want to share in this special trip. My Mom, Justin's parents' and sister, my sisters and their families will all be joining us for our week at Walt Disney World (Olivia recently wrote an essay on taking Jackson to Disney World- so sweet!). Jackson thinks a trip to the Olive Garden with family is fantastic - so a week at Walt Disney will be pure joy!

Jackson knows we are going to see Mickey Mouse, Woody, Buzz, Donald, Goofy, and Handy Manny. But - always the sceptic- Jackson always asks "They got Kelly's Hardware Store, Mom?"...(from Handy Manny)...little does he know - Walt Disney World has everything!

The planning was intense. A trip for 13, a hotel that would make everyone happy, flights fitting around many work schedules, breakfast with Mickey Mouse reserved, lunch with Handy Manny reserved, the Hoop Di Do Review reserved, and a special birthday cake delivered to Jackson on our last night arranged....two "Parent's Guides to Disney" read front to back, one expert Disney web site memorized word for word....two anxious parents, and one excited little boy!!! Whew!

Justin's birthday was a week ago...and we are still celebrating. Justin always teases me for making turning my birthDAY into a birthWEEK. However, this yeas he is guilty of it too!

This coming weekend we will continue the birthday celebration by having lunch with my family. Looking forward to it!

Last week we had a small celebration with the three of us on Justin's actual birthday. Tonight, I finally got some time to download the video. Jackson LOVES singing Happy Birthday and often wants to sing it more than once. I thought the video was very sweet and couldn't wait to share.

Justin and I have started P90X...a late New Years resolution (better late than never).

One of the first steps - it asks you to to take pictures of yourself in order to keep track of your progress. While I won't shock you with our photos - I will however tell you a sweet story of a little boy wanting to be just like his Daddy.

Tonight, while Justin and I were doing the AB DVD - Jackson joined us instead of playing in his playroom. It was hilarious to look over and see this little boy try to do these impossible sit-ups. I had to chuckle when Jackson would grunt or take a deep breath - exactly when his Dad would. He watched Justin's every move and copied it. At some point, I was happy to take a break from the exercising and watched Justin and his "mini-me".

After the workout, Justin and I took our pictures just as the DVD requests. As always, Jackson stood aside and watched. When I was done taking Justin's photos, Jackson raised his hand with authority and said, "My Turn!" He took his shirt off and stood in front of the wall in the same poses Justin had just done. I was laughing so hard a couple of the photos were blurry...but I managed to catch a few goon ones.

So funny - anything to be like his Daddy!

"I'm waitin' on my Pop!"

After a very lazy weekend, we got together with Justin's family to celebrate Justin's upcoming birthday. Jackson was very excited that Pop, Mama, Ashley, and Uncle Todd would be coming over. In fact, starting at 10 am, Jackson sat on a chair in our dining room - looking out of the window to wait for everyone to arrive. Only problem with that was no one was coming until 2 pm. After listening to Jackson tell us he was waiting on his "Pop" - We finally convinced him to take a nap and everyone would arrive shortly. Can't blame the kid - he just loves a good party!. We had a nice visit with Justin's family - as always!

Viva Las Vegas...and Happy Anniversary!

Eight years ago today -

I married my best friend, the one that I live for, laugh with and love.

Justin and I celebrated our anniversary this weekend with a short trip to Las Vegas. Justin had placed two tickets to see Garth Brooks' Vegas show under our Christmas tree this year for me. Justin knew that seeing this show was on my "bucket list" and wanted nothing more than to help me mark it off. Truth be told, he was looking forward to himself.

We were only in Vegas for two days, but it was such a great weekend get-a-way. I cherish the times we get to get-a-way just the two of us. Especially times like this when we get to explore and experience new things. Justin showed me the ropes of the Casino - we even won a little! We even took in a burlesque show so we could really get a taste of Vegas. It was a bit "out-of-the-box" for me, but that is what Vegas is all about, right?

Garth's show was amazing. It was just the country star, a guitar, and a stool. Garth sang songs from almost every decade and told the story of how all music has influenced his life. I kept wanting to pinch myself to see if I was really there. I even teared up when he sang Merle Haggard and George Jones (my Dad would have loved it)! I thought Justin was going to jump out of his seat when he sang Billy Joel's Piano Man....and we both were up out of our seats screaming Friends in Low Places with the rest of the crowd. It was really an amazing show - we are already talking about making sure we see it one more time before Garth leaves Vegas!

At the end of the weekend we both agreed it might have been one of our favorite weekends together. But truth be told, I could go to a corn field for the weekend with Justin and have fun. We just seem to always find something to make us laugh - throw in Vegas and we are set for an entertaining weekend!

Welcome to the World, Mr. Cooper Daniel Morgan

Justin, Jackson, and I recently got to meet Mr. Cooper Daniel Morgan.

Cooper is the new son of our great friends Joe and Lora Morgan. I cannot begin to tell you how much Joe and Lora longed for Cooper's arrival. The saying, "they loved him before they knew him" couldn't be more true in this case. I can still remember Joe calling Justin with the big news that Lora was expecting - it was wonderful news.

Cooper came a little early and was a bit of a handful at first...leaving Mom and Dad without little sleep. But you wouldn't know it. Joe and Lora beam with love when talking about Cooper.

Jackson was pretty impressed with Cooper. He loved holding him and talking to him in his swing...but when asked if we should have a baby come live with us - his answer was a clear "NO." :)

The good news for Jackson - is that I'm certain Joe and Lora would like to keep Cooper. Who wouldn't? He is adorable. He truly is a good lookin' baby!

Over the weekend, Justin and I joined our great friends- Amanda and David Noah- in wishing their baby boy a very Happy First Birthday.

Brennan Noah is so adorable and has the sweetest grin. You can tell in an instant that this sweet smile lights up the room and melts his parents' hearts.

Happy Birthday Brennan - we can't wait to celebrate many more!

Jackson loved "partying" with Brennan, Kooper, Addi, and the other kids - so much so that I never got a chance to snap a picture of all of them together. :)

Brothers and Sisters? He's Got Em'!

A lot of people ask when Justin and I are going to have another baby. I suppose most folks do think its coming soon. And Justin and I do hope to add to our family of three some day - we have no immediate plans to do so soon. For now, we are loving watching Jackson grow and becoming a "little boy".

We recently asked Jackson what he thought about having siblings. Turns out - he's all stocked up on brothers and sisters. Who knew?

Olivia, Maddie, Griffin and Hayden are Jackson's cousins. But he sure does love them as brothers and sisters. Such a sweet video....its a keeper!

Potty Report

We are now ending Day 2 with Jackson in Big Boy underwear. So far, I would mark it as a success. And, I've gotten over my shock that my baby boy is out of diapers - and I'm just enjoying watching him be so proud of himself.

Yesterday (Day 1) was a major WIN for Jackson. I sent 4 outfits (including extra underwear, socks, and shoes) because I was certain it was going to be a disaster. I was also THAT Mom and called the school twice yesterday to see how things were going...only to be told that he was doing great and had no accidents! Ms. Herald said that Jackson kept saying, "My mom is going to be so proud of me!" He was right! I gave him such a big hug when I arrived at school and he was in the same pair of underwear that I brought him in.

Justin and I took Jackson to Paradise Cafe (AKA "The Cookie Place") for Macaroni and a chocolate chip cookie to celebrate. Jackson beamed from ear to ear and was so proud of himself - and so were we.

Day 2 was a bit more complicated. Jackson had a dentist appointment and we had lunch with my Mom. Jackson seems to not be as motivated when he is away from school and out of his routine. (I also think he's a bit stubborn and just won't do it for me!) He did have an accident at lunch - but I was prepared with extra clothes and we just moved right along.

Potty training sure doesn't allow for our quick pace of life. Leaving in the morning takes longer so Jackson can make a "pit stop" before we take on the 20 minute drive to pre-school, drop off is longer as he takes another "pit stop" before we arrive to his class room....and so on and so on. So this Mommy is getting up a little earlier tomorrow as I have learned we are on Jackson's schedule now. Actually, we have been on his schedule from the day he was born...his schedule has just changed? :)

Keeping our fingers crossed for continued success!....

Today is a big day at our house! Today is Jackson's first day in BIG BOY underoo's!

Yesterday, during Jackson's Parent Teacher conference, Mrs. Moss told us that Jackson was ready for underwear. We knew he had been doing so well at school - but it is hit and miss at home. I was a bit shocked to hear he was ready (perhaps - I am the one that isn't ready!). But, we have decided to take Mrs. Moss' advice.

So, of course I went straight to the store and bought "Woody/Buzz" underoo's. Jackson was more than excited to wear his "friends" on his rear end today. :) Check out some photos from his modeling session - and wish us luck!

P.S. What happened to my baby that taught me how to change a diaper. It just doesn't seem right that he is walking around in underoo's. :(
